It isn't a vacation until someone goes to the hospital

Wow, that American Airlines is a good deal. $189 to go to Portland and they'll throw in a free upper respiratory infection and a middle ear infection for the baby.

On Sunday E woke up with a 102 degree fever. Not Friday, not Saturday, but Sunday. Since we were getting to go on the 'big airplane' twice on Monday at noon, we had to figure out what was wrong with His Royal Highness. Since we know people who know people, we were off to the Pediatric ER.

Where we were treated like royalty. It was the first time I didn't have to spell my child's last name to someone since his birth.

"Oh, it's THE GRANDSON." If you have to go to the ER I would recommend going to the hospital where your FIL has worked for the last 20 years. Someone even carried my coat for me. The last time I was in an ER, I waited 5 hours and everyone was mean. At this hospital, someone brought in toys so the baby wouldn't be bored during his 7 minute wait.

(Sidenote for which I am too tired to find the right segue: as we were boarding the flight yesterday, one gate agent asked another gate agent why she was delivering paperwork to the cockpit. She said that the pilot had forgotten the flight plan. I guess I should be glad he remember it BEFORE we left. And I thought United Airlines had gone to hell in a handbasket.)

So the baby was drugged up and he did fine. His eardrum didn't burst but by golly, his diaper did. Does anyone have any idea the exact number of airplane poop bomb posts I have written because it feels like old hat. This time it was all over his father. I was only covered in residual poo. I hate poo. Really really hate it.

And does anyone know what's up with the booger bubbles the size of golf balls? That is just messed up.

What, pray tell, is a booger bubble?

Why do you make me snort with laughter while the child is ill?!?!

It just feels so wrong.

I hope he gets over this soon. Poor thing.

And, that is so great about the ER. Who knew that this was even possible? :)

I am glad the ER docs treated you awesomely - wish they could give my locals a lesson or two...

I'm dying laughing because I thought my kids were the only ones who ever got sick when we were away from home.

booger bubbles the size of golf balls... LOL

Antibiotics? Poop bombs. Runny ones.

Hope he's feeling all better.

Booger Bubble--when the snot from your nose completely covers up the nostril and your breathing results in a bubble. The bubble expands with your breath. It's disgusting.

Thank you for clarifying! I thought it was a gaggle of people you don't like.

Eww i was lucky the kid never had booger bubbles but her cousin did back when i used to babysit him. So so gross.

alos on the ER, I gave birth in my mom's hospital. Can you say largest birthing room, semi-private room after, nurses handpicked, an extra day at the hospital, and i left with a months supply of diapers and 2 months worth of formula even though I breastfed.

Well, at least your trip ended on a good note - not! Too bad E got sick, but that rocks to be treated like royalty!

Next time you get on an airplane with E - double diaper that boy up.

Maybe even put some Bounty super-absorbant (sp?) paper towels around the diaper leg elastic areas -- with duct tape. That way nothing will come out. If he does have a poop bomb, it will all stay in....his eyeballs may pop out and the Bounty papertowels and duct tape may cut off his leg circulation, but you and D are in the clear!

At least the ER experience was quick and more pleasant than usual! Sorry to hear about all of that, I don't miss THAT part of having little children at all!

That sounds like it might be worth flying back there next time E has an emergency!
Sigh... the booger bubbles... what I have to look forward to...

"At this hospital, someone brought in toys so the baby wouldn't be bored during his 7 minute wait"... totally LOL!
