What happened to the customer always being right?

I've been fuming for hours.

To my Afghani friend at the Kabob House, thanks for giving me a cultural lesson on how you treat women. I really loved it when you tried to take the guy's order who was standing directly behind me before you took mine. And it made my day when I piped up that I was next and you asked the guy in FRONT of me if I was with him. I wouldn't have even thought to talk for myself. Thanks for serving the THREE DIFFERENT ORDERS for the THREE MEN behind me and for clearing the restaurant before fulfilling my order. People get capped in this town for less. So I hope you weren't offended when I came over the counter, ripped my receipt of the credit card machine myself, signed and threw it back in your face.

Oh, that's right. It would have been in your face if you hadn't actually WALKED AWAY from the counter AGAIN.

Next time I'll send the man in rather than have him watch the baby in the car. What was I thinking?

To all my friends who have suffered disparate treatment over the years for your race, color, sex or religion, I am so sorry and I can see how this would really piss you off.

A woman was selling BBQed corn. Wow. Never saw this before. A woman, huh? They can do that?!? At least, the corn was good.

In February, I published a post that dealt with this subject, but it had more political overtones to it. Congresswoman Stephanie Tubbs Jones of Ohio was a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher at the time, and insisted that such treatment of women should be tolerated because if it weren’t, it would be a sign that we were intolerant of Islam.

I won’t go into the whole thing here, but if you get a chance to read the post, entitled “Women’s Rights Depend Upon Their Politics,” you’ll notice that some of the comments seem to support Jones’ stance and suggested that we should be more inquisitive as to why a culture or religion views women as second-class citizens as opposed to being critical of them for it.

I’ll continue to be critical of it, and wondering why is secondary, in my humble opinion. I agree with you, and I would have been pissed off, too.

Marelle--I stayed because otherwise I would have had to feed my husband.

Abnormal--I'm on my way over to read your post

Christina--if I had only thought of sticking my head under the drink dispenser. Now that is good.

Hey, maybe you can have plopped your boobs on the counter. In a show of defiance. Or, maybe not. hehehehe

I was actually clothed in a modest t-shirt for once. It was probably the shorts that were so offensive. My gosh, my knees were showing.

I would've LOST IT. I've discovered as I've *ahem* gotten just a WEE bit older, that I won't take the crap I used to take without shooting off at the mouth and letting EVERYONE know about it (I used to be so shy!) Yeah, I'm not worried about making a scene anymore.

I commend you for not having a conniption fit right then and there...I probably would've made a complete ass out of myself (but I'm sure I wouldn't have cared and it would've made me feel ever so much better!)

PQ--I'll admit that I was in shock when it was happening. I have thought about returning there, standing outside and telling everyone that I got violent food poisoning from their food. It's not like I am employed these days. I'm sure the baby would just love the field trip.

Yes, it is annoying. I get this kind of treatment from feminists all the time, and occasionally from black racists. My sister had a black guy spit in her hamburger at Burger King for being white. Idiots will always find some reason to hate you. Just try to remember that they are idiots and that's why they act this way.

so this place was in fairfax?

i've yet to step foot in one, but what's good to eat at those kabob places?

if you want, i will go in there an pee all over their toilets for you knowing that the counter bloke would probably have to clean it all up... but then that would be rude and i disfavor being rude... unless i were drunk... then i wouldn't know what rude was anyway...

Memphis Steve--I am a currently unemployed new mother. Everything is a PERSONAL attack against me. I'm working on being rational. I'll keep you updated.

IC--not the one in Fairfax and I was there, of course, for the Peruvian chicken. Isn't everyone? Only in DC.
